Fidaxomicin Powder is a macrolide antibiotic. It is a white to off-white powder, semi-synthesized by fermentation of the actinomycete Actinoplanes deccanensis, and is a first-in-class narrow-spectrum antibacterial drug. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit the σ subunit of bacterial RNA polymerase, thereby blocking transcription initiation. The active pharmaceutical ingredient is almost entirely not absorbed by the intestines after oral administration, exerting its bactericidal effect locally.

Fidaxomicin is primarily used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, specifically for the following purposes:

1. Treatment of Clostridium difficile infection-associated diarrhea: As the active ingredient in Dificid, a prescription drug approved by the FDA and NMPA, it is used to treat Clostridium difficile infection-associated diarrhea in adults and children over 6 months of age, with a standard treatment course of 10 days.
2. Treatment to reduce infection recurrence: Clinical studies have shown that Fidaxomicin significantly reduces the recurrence rate of infection compared to traditional vancomycin treatment due to its less disruptive effect on the normal intestinal flora.
3. Anti-infective therapy in immunocompromised individuals: Used for the treatment of Clostridium difficile opportunistic infections in immunocompromised individuals, such as those infected with HIV.
4. Development of oral suspension formulations: The active pharmaceutical ingredient can be used to prepare oral suspension formulations suitable for patients with dysphagia.
