Methimazole API is an imidazole antithyroid product primarily used to treat hyperthyroidism. It works by inhibiting the peroxidase system, thus hindering the synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Animal studies have shown that it can inhibit the synthesis of antibodies by B lymphocytes, reduce the level of thyroid-stimulating antibodies in the bloodstream, and restore the function of suppressor T cells to normal.
